was not so cut up by the sad event of my death, but that he
was an excellent man of business on the very day of my
funeral, and solemnized³ it with an undoubted bargain.

children ever ask him what it is oclock, no man or woman

such a place. marley stands next to scrooge now. they
share, so it seems, a spotlight. but what does scrooge care
of any of this? it is the very thing he likes! to edge his way
along the crowded paths of life, warning all human
sympathy to keep its distance.
