in my mind, people arent meant to eat—much less enjoy eating—insects. my aunt essie,
though, prides herself on eating adventurously. so, i let her drag me along to cafe
curiosity, which regularly serves several grasshopper-based dishes.
despite aunt essies insistence that i \live a little,\ i ordered a simple hamburger.
however, to appease my aunt, i agreed to sample her more daring menu choices. the
guacamole, with its crispy, roasted-grasshopper topping, tasted odd and had an
unappealing crunch. the grasshopper tacos didnt appeal to me either—i couldnt abide
the look of those little critters lying on the tortilla!
by the time dessert arrived, my opinions on eating insects hadnt changed. but then i
tasted the grasshopper pie. jumping jitterbugs, it was fabulous! grasshoppers were
nowhere to be seen because they had been ground up and formed into a delicate, nutty
crust. the crust was filled with rich, minty ice cream and topped with gooey hot fudge.
next time aunt essie returns to cafe curiosity, i might have to tag along for dessert!
which sentence best summarizes the authors point of view about eating grasshoppers?
a grasshopper dish can be delicious when the insect is blended with other
ingredients and is not a visible part of the dish.
people should never eat grasshoppers because they are unappealing and not
meant for humans.
there are many ways to cook dishes with grasshoppers, and although some
appear appetizing, none of them are actually enjoyable.
The author initially disliked grasshopper - based dishes like the guacamole with visible grasshoppers and the grasshopper tacos. But when the grasshoppers were ground up (not visible) in the grasshopper pie (blended with other ingredients like minty ice cream and hot fudge), the author found it delicious.
