Question

ad the caption & labels
remember the maine!
and dont forget the starving cubans!
what is the main purpose of the slogan
emember the maine!\ shown in the cartoon?
○ to encourage u.s. isolation from foreign conflicts
○ to promote american sympathy for spain
○ to build public support for war against spain
○ to criticize cubas independence movement

Explanation:

The slogan "Remember the Maine!" was used after the USS Maine exploded, and this cartoon also shows suffering Cubans (under Spanish rule). The U.S. used this to rally public support for war against Spain (to intervene in Cuba's fight for independence from Spain). Option A is wrong as it's about intervention, not isolation. Option B is wrong as the U.S. opposed Spain's rule in Cuba. Option D is wrong as the U.S. supported Cuba's independence. So the purpose was to build public support for war against Spain.

Answer:

C. To build public support for war against Spain
