Question
applying the decision-making model to
a difficult situation
name: juden r and yori s date: 11/03/23
read the following scenario, and apply each of the seven steps in the decision - making
model to help you determine the most moral or loving decision that andy should make.
andy was feeling rough. he and his friend janelle just had a blow - up. andy was
upset that janelle was hardly around anymore and totally bailed on a major
assignment that they were supposed to work on together. they barely got by with
a passing grade. andy confided in another friend, sandy. “i’m so frustrated with
janelle. it’s like she has no time for anyone but herself.”
later, when andy heard the familiar beep of his phone, he picked it up to see
who had messaged him. sandy had included him in a group chat.
hey, check out janelle. no wonder she’s failing her assignments and isn’t
around anymore. she’s been too busy chatting up jason! i heard he’s
like a major shoplifter and she has started stealing now, too. so, watch
out...janelle and jason can’t steal your good grades, but they will
steal your stuff!
this post was followed by a photo of janelle and jason by her locker.
as andy stared at the message, several other kids in the group chat began
posting message after message, making rude comments and posting emojis of
shocked faces, and winking, cry - laughing, and kissing faces.
beep. a private message popped up on andy’s screen. it was from sandy.
“hilarious, right?”
andy was speechless. sure, he was frustrated with janelle and the bad grade
they had gotten, but this was out of line. he had vented his frustration to sandy
about janelle, and now janelle had no idea what was being said behind her back.
and behind jason’s back, too. it wasn’t fair. andy knew what sandy posted was
completely unfounded...but he wasn’t sure what to do about it.
The problem involves analyzing Andy's situation and applying a decision - making model, focusing on social interactions, moral decisions, and group dynamics. Psychology (a subfield of Social Science) is relevant as it deals with human behavior, emotions, and decision - making in social contexts. The scenario includes Andy's feelings, Sandy's actions, and the social dynamics among Andy, Janelle, and Sandy, which are core topics in Psychology.
