Question

what is the first step in determining the theme in a play?
state a message about the play’s topic in a sentence
decide what the play says about the topic
identify an important topic in the play
study how the play’s structure supports the topic

Explanation:

To determine the theme of a play, the first step is to identify an important topic (like love, justice, etc.) presented in the play. After identifying the topic, one can then explore what the play says about it, state the message, or study structural support. So identifying the important topic is the logical first step.
