\i can’t believe i actually did it,\ prince felix murmured in amazement. calliope snorted and shook her head as though to show her approval.
earlier that morning, as he snuck down the turret staircase, heart racing, prince felix replayed his father’s booming voice. it echoed with each footstep: \you will join our army in battle. this is your responsibility to the family. to the kingdom.\ but now, prince felix heard only the tall grass rustling in the wind, the shifting of calliope’s hooves, and his own galloping heartbeat.
imagining the guards assembling once they discovered his empty chambers, the prince took one final look over his shoulder. he turned calliope toward the rising sun and urged her on.

prince felix is surprised by how much he misses being in the home he knows.
prince felix is relieved that he can escape the castle and serve his kingdom in battle.
prince felix is nervous about being unguarded and alone far from home.
prince felix prefers an uncertain future to joining his father’s army.

Explanation:

To determine the correct statement, we analyze each option:

• Option 1: The text doesn't show Prince Felix being surprised about missing home; instead, he's focused on his role and the journey.
• Option 2: There's no indication he's relieved about escaping the castle to serve in battle. The story shows him taking on responsibility, not escaping.
• Option 3: The text doesn't mention him being nervous about being unguarded or far from home.
• Option 4: The text implies uncertainty about joining his father’s army (e.g., “I can’t believe I actually did it” suggests he’s surprised at his decision, and the context of the journey and new responsibility hints at an uncertain future regarding this role).

Answer:

Prince Felix prefers an uncertain future to joining his father’s army.
