and seeing my cast-off body lying like lumber,
i would laugh with joy.

Question 3
The poem "In Trouble and Shame" by D.H. Lawrence shows the speaker's desire to escape their current state. Phrases like "wish I could go also", "wish that I could go" through red doors, and leaving "shame", "pain", and "flesh" (body) behind indicate a yearning to escape from their troubled, shamed, and painful existence. The speaker wants to shed their earthly burdens (shame, pain, physical body) and find liberation, as seen in the imagery of discarding shame like shoes, pain like garments, and the body like lumber, with the final joyous laugh at being free from the physical form.
The speaker's tone has elements of yearning (from repeated "wish" to escape) and, ultimately, joyous liberation. Initially, there's a longing (e.g., "wish I could go") to escape the burdens of shame and pain. Later, the tone shifts to joy when imagining leaving the body ("laugh with joy")—showing a mix of yearning for escape and eventual joyful anticipation of being free from the physical/ emotional burdens. Alternatively, the tone can be seen as introspective and hopeful, as the speaker contemplates transcending their current troubled state.
