Question

appealing to ethos
quote 1: we are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth, and listen to the
song of that siren, till she transforms us into beasts.
quote 2: i have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of
experience.
—patrick henry, speech in the convention of delegates of virginia

which of these quotes is an appeal to
ethos?
○ quote 1
○ quote 2

Explanation:

Ethos is an appeal to credibility/character. Quote 2 uses "the lamp of experience" to establish Henry's reliance on his own (and impliedly, trustworthy) experience, building credibility. Quote 1 uses figurative language (siren, beasts) more for pathos or logos - like warning, not ethos.

Answer:

Quote 2
