Question

the acronym hippo is used to help us remember the reasons species become endangered and/or go extinct. what does the h in hippo stand for? habitat loss hunger

Explanation:

In the context of species endangerment and extinction, the acronym HIPPO is a mnemonic. Each letter represents a major factor. The "H" specifically stands for Habitat loss, which is a well - known and significant cause of species decline. Habitat loss occurs due to activities like deforestation (for agriculture, urbanization, etc.), wetland destruction, and fragmentation of natural areas. These changes disrupt the living spaces of species, making it difficult for them to find food, mates, and suitable living conditions. Hunger, while a consequence of some of these factors (e.g., if a species' food source is in a lost habitat), is not the direct meaning of the "H" in HIPPO.

Answer:

Habitat loss
