Question

1. what is the main role of a fireman in the novel fahrenheit 451?

a. to extinguish fire
b. to light dark places
c. to take care of mechanical hounds
d. to burn books

Explanation:

In Fahrenheit 451, the society is dystopian. Firemen, contrary to the real - world role, are not for extinguishing fires. The novel's setting has a ban on books. Firemen's job is to burn books (as books are seen as a threat to the conformist society). Option A is the real - world role of firemen. Option B is not relevant to their main role. Option C is a minor task related to their work (the Mechanical Hound is a tool they use), but not the main role.

Answer:

D. To burn books
