we believe that all people are equal and that their creator gives them important rights. these rights include the right to live, to be free, and to seek happiness.
to protect these rights, governments are created by the people. the government gets its power from the agreement of the people. if a government stops helping the people, the people have the right to change or get rid of it. they can start a new government based on what will keep them safe and happy.
so, we, the leaders of the united states of america, say that these colonies are free and independent states.
