Question

served a useful purpose because it
encouraged education
eliminated warfare
gave the people some protection and security
they maintained ancient greek & roman manuscripts.

Explanation:

The question likely relates to a historical context (e.g., medieval or Islamic civilization's role in preserving Greek/Roman knowledge). The option "They maintained ancient Greek & Roman manuscripts" aligns with historical facts about how certain civilizations (like Islamic Golden Age scholars) preserved classical texts. Other options: encouraging education is broader, eliminating warfare is inaccurate, and giving protection/security is not the key role here for manuscript preservation.

Answer:

They maintained ancient Greek & Roman manuscripts.
