Question

in your own words, explain the difference between a vignette and a piece of flash fiction.

Explanation:

• Vignette: Prioritizes atmosphere/character sketch over a traditional story structure. It's more about evoking a feeling or showing a slice of life without a clear beginning-middle-end.
• Flash Fiction: Compresses a story into few words, still having a recognizable story structure (e.g., a problem and its resolution, character development in a tiny arc).

Answer:

A vignette is a short, descriptive piece that focuses on capturing a mood, moment, or character's essence, often lacking a full narrative arc. Flash fiction is a very short story with a complete narrative, including elements like plot, conflict, and resolution, even in minimal form.
