Question

read the excerpt from animal farm. in january there came bitterly hard weather. the earth was like iron, and nothing could be done in the fields. many meetings were held in the big barn, and the pigs occupied themselves with planning out the work of the coming season. this excerpt is an example of conflict between a character and others society nature self.

Explanation:

The excerpt describes hard weather (like the earth being iron) preventing field work, showing a character (or the animals) facing challenges from natural conditions. Conflict with nature involves a character against natural elements (weather, terrain, etc.). "Others" would be conflict with other characters, "society" with social structures, and "self" is internal conflict—none fit here as well as "nature".

Answer:

C. nature
