Question

how do you determine the central idea of a text? determine the author’s tone. find the conflict. determine the subject and what the author says about the subject. highlight the text.

Explanation:

To determine the central idea of a text, we analyze each option:

• "Determine the author’s tone" focuses on the author's attitude, not the main idea.
• "Find the conflict" is relevant for narrative texts with conflict but not all texts.
• "Determine the subject and what the author says about the subject" directly targets identifying the main topic and the author’s message about it, which defines the central idea.
• "Highlight the text" is a reading strategy, not a way to identify the central idea.

Answer:

Determine the subject and what the author says about the subject.
