Question

challenging misperceptions
to address cultural misperceptions, it is essential for people to research when they encounter
information that challenges their beliefs about other cultures. additionally, misperceptions can
be countered by interacting with and actively listening to people of other backgrounds.

• active listening: one way to challenge cultural misperceptions is to actively listen to

people of other cultures. active listening involves paying close attention when someone is
speaking and fully considering what they’re saying. active listening helps build
understanding and empathy for others.

• thorough research: when researching a possible misperception, verify information with

at least three reliable sources to help weed out inaccuracy and find the truth.

• cultural exchange: learning directly by talking with people of different cultural

backgrounds can be one of the most effective ways to counter misperceptions. cultural
exchanges encourage open - mindedness and genuine understanding while challenging
stereotypes and misperceptions.
what is one of the main potential benefits of cultural
exchanges?

• confirming cultural biases and avoiding difficult conversations
• encouraging open - mindedness and correcting misperceptions
• leaving misperceptions untouched but having a positive interaction

Explanation:

To determine the answer, we analyze the text about cultural exchanges. The text states that "Cultural exchanges encourage open - mindedness and genuine understanding while challenging stereotypes and misperceptions".

• Option 1: "confirming cultural biases and avoiding difficult conversations" goes against the purpose of cultural exchanges (which aim to challenge misperceptions, not confirm biases), so this is incorrect.
• Option 2: "encouraging open - mindedness and correcting misperceptions" matches the description of cultural exchanges in the text.
• Option 3: "leaving misperceptions untouched but having a positive interaction" is incorrect because cultural exchanges are meant to challenge misperceptions, not leave them untouched.

Answer:

B. encouraging open - mindedness and correcting misperceptions
